cosplay!
Part of my fascination with anime are the wonderful costumes of the characters. I sometimes even wonder if I would look good in them. Then, it was early last year when I came across a television show which featured the cosplay scene in the Philippines. I didn’t know that there was such a thing here. I heard that in some countries there are meet-ups and people dress in their favorite costume but I wasn’t familiar with cosplay. After that, cosplay seemed to be everywhere - in the Net, television, video game launches and magazines.
Cosplay was defined as a contraction of the English words “costume” and “play”, is a Japanese subculture centered on dressing as characters from manga, anime, tokusatsu, and video games, and, less commonly, Japanese live action television shows, fantasy movies, or Japanese pop music bands.
Most cosplayers design their own costumes. They use their creativity to define their chosen character. They even discuss in forums the materials that they’re going to use, the sewing techniques and other useful stuff to fellow cosplayers.
I would like to join one someday but I’m thinking I’m a bit old for cosplay. I’m still hoping I could get a hold of those costumes. They’re so fab! If ever I get invited to an anime themed party, I’ll definitely dress up! ;)
