folding paper cranes
When I was a kid, I had an aunt who taught me origami. We folded boats, hats, flowers and my favorite - paper cranes. I’ve always liked creating paper cranes because it seemed a bit complicated when I was little. Every time I finish one, I feel so happy. Then I’d do another. And another. Oh, I had so much fun with origami.
In Fox’s TV series Prison Break, paper cranes play an important part. The main character, Michael Scofield leaves paper cranes at important places when he was planning for their escape. He also gives them to his brother Lincoln and to Sara, the prison doctor whom he fell in love with. It was said that a crane stands for ‘familial obligation’ and ‘watching out for your own’. Later on in the first season it Michael remembers that Lincoln used to leave paper cranes by Michael’s bedside when they were kids. Now, he feels that it is his turn to watch over his brother.
I didn’t know that paper cranes stand for anything. I just enjoy making them. Last Sunday, I made a few paper cranes. I gave them to my brother and Ali. My brother exclaimed, ‘Wow, Scofield!’. They were both delighted to receive the cranes.

I wasn’t able to take pictures of the cranes that I did since I already gave them to Pollux and Ali. I just used plain white paper for folding unlike the colorful ones in the pic. Well, they are just about as nice, though the creases weren’t that perfect. *lol* Thanks to perkowitz.net for the photo.
