How to Be Kawaii
I just came across this wikiHow while browsing for some kawaii Harajuku stuff. I’m not exactly doing this and I think I’m too old for it (though sometimes I wonder if I can pull it off) but I <3 everything kawaii and I think it's just kawaii posting this here. Lol.
How to Be Kawaii
- Keep up with the latest trends by doing some research on the Internet. Columns like Tokyopop’s Kawaii Culture provide information on the latest kawaii trends.
- Do not be afraid to stand out and be noticed. You will get some weird looks from other people.
- Layer well - this is important. Also, wacky patterns are super. Wear as many colors together as you want and don’t care if your clothes clash.
- Wear bright colors and smile a lot. Wear pink a lot and wear cute characters on your clothes. Do not wear jeans and a t-shirt. Wear something wild and crazy. Also, try to stay away from labels a little.
- Sport toys and/or bags made by Sanrio or San-X or items featuring anime characters.
- Wear ruffles and pastel colors.
- Make your own clothes. This is a great idea and if you want, you can also modify pre-made clothes which can turn out looking really good.
- Accessorize! This is one of the few things that is different about being Kawaii and being Harajuku… Wear cute plastic, fuzzy, accessories of any kind. Key chains around your neck the sky is the limit! Wear cute animal or Hello Kitty shaped accessories all over.
- Style your hair like a manga character. If you apply lots of firm gel to thick chunks of hair, you can look like Super Saiyan. You can get hair like Chi from Chobits by parting hair in front of the ears and securing it with a round clip.
Don’t go overboard and don’t try too hard. I think it’s better to have your own style and be comfortable with it. Don’t force yourself to be fashionable just to fit in. Smile a lot (as mentioned in no. 4), you can also be kawaii just by doing that. Happy weekend!
