manage your finances

Everybody wants to save up. But some of us tend to splurge whenever we think we still have a lot of money to spare. I’m not sure if you have similar problems but I happen to be quite lax when it comes to managing my money. This 2007, I promised myself I wouldn’t have any more financial woes so I’ll be more cautious when it comes to spending.

I found this nifty Excel template to keep me more aware of my income and expenses. I’m not particularly good at Excel but this is really easy for me to use. The formulas have already been set and the expenses have been broken down to their respective classification like home expenses, daily living, health, transportation and the like. Just change the entries if you want it to be a little more personalized. It’s a simple spreadsheet for those who want to take a quick glance on how are they doing with their personal budgets. You can easily track down whether you have extra cash or not before you buy that cool little gadget that you’re eyeing. Since the presentation of the budget in this spreadsheet is on a monthly basis, I suggest you still keep a little notebook to write down your daily expenses and keep your receipts for reference.

this is my goal for this year too.
actually, i started making my own bi-monthly excel spreadsheet late third quarter of last year. it helps but i have to be religious about it.
reports, spreadsheets and simply number crunching are what i do for a living but it’s still hard applying my knowledge to my own finances. :(
    good luck to us!
