Stay motivated to exercise
I haven’t really been in the gym lately. I’m quite a slacker when it comes to my exercise routine and it’s not good because I need to do some cardio and stuff to stabilize my blood pressure. (I feel like I’m really old when I’m talking about blood pressure. Darnit.) My weight is a bit erratic too. Kind of like a yo-yo effect. I need to be active, lose a few pounds and more importantly keep ‘em off.
I’m really looking for ways on how to keep myself motivated to work out. Here’s what I decided to do.
Brush up on my awareness about the positive benefits of exercise.
I need to have a list of those benefits to remind me that I NEED to exercise. That it’s not just a temporary thing because I just want to fit into something. One important benefit of exercise is it improves our overall well-being. With a positive psyche, everything else follows.
Set attainable goals
Its better to start with a 30-minute exercise, thrice a week than keep a promise to myself that I’ll do something like an hour everyday. I need to set my schedule whether I’ll do it in the morning or after work. Working out in the morning is difficult because I have to get up earlier than usual but I prefer that than working out after office because I just want to rest and wind down after a looong exhausting day.
Choose an exercise that I like doing.
Since I have to stick with this routine, I should better choose something that will keep me in tune with my goals. I’ll probably start with the less strenuous activities first then once I feel my body is well-adjusted, I’ll try the more challenging ones.
Have somebody track my progress.
I guess I should involve my family and Ali to help me stay on track. If my brother will go to the gym with me, that would be better. At least I’m not alone in waking up early. Lol. Since I’m also trying to be on a diet, Ali has always been helpful by reminding me about the foods that I need to avoid. Having someone supportive will make days at the gym a little easier.
Reward myself.
Hey I’m not thinking about finishing half a gallon of ice cream after I’ve lost a few pounds. I need to remember that I also need to keep those excess pounds off. I tend to obsess sometimes with how much weight I put on or lose and now I know it won’t help. I don’t count every single calorie that I put into my mouth and I don’t deprive myself. Moderation is the key. Maybe I’ll treat myself to a little dessert once or twice a week if I’ve been sticking well to my exercise routine.
Wish me luck and better health. Enjoy your week.

joyings- i know how busy one can be- and there are times when i can only go to the gym once a week. so i resort to the following shortcuts:
stretching and twisting when i’m trying to get out of bed in the morning (try twisting, stretching finish with a child’s pose, then spring up to go to the shower)
10 squats each time i go to the bathroom at work.
(10 jumping jacks in lieu of the squats when i feel sleepy in the afternoon- but i haven’t been sluggish since i started exercising regularly)
10 crunches during commercial break while watching tv
10 trips to the laundry room once every week (with a basket of dirty clothes)
i take 2 risers at a time when i climb our stairs at home
a little adds up, you know….
as to my diet- i love eating, but i’m not a snacker to begin wiht, so i at least think i still have healthy eating habits.
good luck!
oh wow! thanks for this ate inna! I’ll definitely try it out.
