weapon of choice? Adobe Premiere Pro 2

It’s been almost two weeks since my last post. I know I should have squeezed in some time to write something but everything always turns up. But being busy is better than being idle. At least I’m learning something new for each project that I’m being assigned to.

Last week, I was asked to be the editor of the video presentation that we had for our quarterly office gathering. Its aim is to cascade the organization’s values in a fun and entertaining fashion. Our group decided to create a spoof of a popular news program. I’m really new with video editing. Adobe Premiere Pro 2 was the weapon of choice to accomplish the job. And I have absolutely no experience whatsoever with Premiere. Sure I edited one home video of my cousin’s kindergarten graduation. But all I did there was basically transferring it to the pc from the video camera and shortening clips that needs to be shortened (like kids running around for like hours) and that’s about it. I did it with Microsoft movie maker.

I chose Adobe Premiere because I’m quite familiar with the Adobe interface since I use Abobe Photoshop CS2 everyday at work. I’ve also heard you can do a lot of things with Premiere so I decided that if I need to wow the audience you gotta have great effects. To start things off, I visited a few sites to get tutorials for Premiere. I viewed the original news program to see the effects for our own video presentation. Luckily, I was able to recreate some of the effects like keyframe interpolation and a few other stuff.

I had a few setbacks though. The clips I downloaded from the camera has a lot of dropped frames. Darn. And Premiere didn’t let me get away with it. It didn’t render problematic clips. And probably the pc that I was using had memory concerns too. With the help of good people, I finished the video with Ulead. I could have done it better with Premiere since Ulead’s capabilities are quite limited. But I’m still glad it turned out okay and I was able to save the intro I created with Premiere. The presentation may have ran a bit downhill but at least I saw that the viewers were quite satisfied. Of course I have to give credits to the funny antics of the actors too.

That was my first time to edit something to be shown to a bunch of people including the higher ups in my organization. Well I guess I wasn’t so bad for an amateur. At least I got favorable response from my audience. For all the video enthusiasts out there, I’d appreciate your tips and suggestions to improve my skills. Maybe next time I can already wow my audience. ;)
