wu-long tea for weight loss?

As a perennial dieter, I’ve tried lots of stuff so I could lose a few pounds. I came across a website a few days ago promoting wu-long (oolong) tea as a slimming tea. I decided to check it out further. In the testimonial section, one user even said she lost 50 pounds by using this product and slight diet modification (she omitted fast food). Wow, 50 pounds? I got more interested (yeah I’m quite gullible when it comes to weight loss thingie), not that I need to lose 50 pounds but if others can lose weight I can do it too. (Quite determined, eh?)

I read and read then when I reached the part of the page selling the product, I stopped. $37 for 60 tea bags? I think it was really expensive. I remember drinking oolong tea in Chinese restaurants and I guess they were serving it as a house tea, free of charge. Well that was a long time ago, most Chinese restaurants now don’t give free tea anymore. But then $37 for some tea? Nah. I’m not that gullible. I thought of researching some more and then maybe find a substitute for the said premium tea.

Here’s what I found out about oolong:* The Chinese have long believed that oolong tea is beneficial in reducing and maintaining weight. A Chinese study, in 1998, of 102 females showed that continuous consumption of oolong tea for six weeks resulted in a reduction of body weight. This study, along with the question of other compounds contributing to tea’s weight loss benefits, spurred further research.

Oolong tea’s effect on blocking the absorption of fats and carbohydrates is thought to play a key role in its weight reducing benefits. While more studies need to be done, initial studies indicate that oolong tea has absorption blocking potential.

There are proven methods for losing weight and keeping it off; exercise, getting enough sleep and eating a balanced diet. Oolong tea can enhance these positive changes and garner faster results.

Oolong - The Facts

  • - Oolong teas taste great and are delicious hot or cold.
  • - There is a tremendous variety of affordable oolong tea.
  • - Enjoy a cup of oolong 30 minutes to 1 hour prior to your walk, workout or yoga session and reap the rewards!
  • - Drink oolong in the afternoon to stave off late day sweet cravings and energy slumps.
  • - All of these aid in healthy weight loss and maintenance.

Convinced that I should try it out, I randomly went to Rustans to look for that tea variety. Luckily, they have it. I bought a box of Stash Chinese Oolong Tea and sampled a bag a while ago and I must say it tastes pretty good. It doesn’t taste bitter nor bland. And it’s not expensive at all, I got it for Php 129.00 (approx. $2.68) for 20 bags.

I’m not sure if it will work but I hope it does. Uh-oh, I think the caffeine in the tea is still keeping me up. Not a good thing because getting enough sleep helps maintain a healthy body weight. I have to count sheep now. Hopefully tomorrow I’ll wake up early to do some stretching exercises and stuff so I’m on my way to a lighter and leaner me. Wish me luck!

Nice write up on oolong tea. If you want to purchase tea at a reasonable price then check out one of my favorite online retailers of tea: Adagiotea.com. I’m not affiliated with them so I don’t get one cent for this recommendation. Also, I wrote a favorable review and profile on my site. Cheers.
